Skegby sits on the hill between Sutton-in-Ashfield and Stanton Hill, and it's older than the mining that later surrounded it — there's a proper stone village core around St Andrew's Church and the old Skegby Hall grounds, wrapped in the inter-war and post-war semis and bungalows that came with the pits.
